Mexican Sunflower

Mexican Sunflower (Tithonia rotundifolia) is now blooming and attracting butterflies. I planted these from seed. You can find them at Botanical Interests and Olivebarn.com. The plants are about 4-5 feet tall now (planted the seeds in March). Beautiful orange flowers, loves full sun and the heat too. Very easy to grow from seed. I noticed [...]

Tropical waterlies are in full bloom now in my stock tank water garden. Nymphaea ‘Lindsey Woods’ is smiling up at the Texas sun and basking in the heat. What a work of art this flower is. The colors are so vivid, it appears as if the petals were dipped in wet paint. One of the most [...]

Macro Monday: Strolling the Garden

May 23, 2011

The verdict is in. Thunbergia battiscombei, also known as Blue Boy, Blue Glory, Clock Vine is a winner in my garden. It has survived the past two winters and has come back into bloom this spring. I don’t remember where I bought this plant/vine but I know I’ve had it for about 10 years. It [...]

Honey Bees Love the Clover!

March 24, 2011
honey-bee-clover-11

My post earlier this year talked about how White Clover is GOOD for your lawn. Apparently it is good for the honey bees too! They love this white clover. So much so, I instructed by lawn guy to avoid cutting this area until the clover is finished blooming. I couldn’t resist today photographing the bees [...]

swallowtail-on-azalea-5

Photography can make for some interesting artwork… especially when shot up close. The colors and patterns of macro photography can be very beauitful even if you don’t know what the subject is. Good enough to frame? I think so. Have a look.
